Attaining such a milestone was indeed an enormous accomplishment for the St. Kitts Co-operative Credit Union Limited as it has weathered many obstacles during these past years. Its 25th Annual General Meeting was held on Thursday 29th May 2008 at the Ocean Terrace Inn Conference Room.
The meeting was geared towards celebrating the triumphs experienced by the membership as the institution continues its objective of strengthening the financial status of its members while ensuring its overall success and continued development.
After the opening remarks from the SKCCU’s President Ms. Yvonne Charles, Pastor Lincoln Connor of the Antioch Baptist Church invoked God’s blessings on the proceedings; this was followed by the international renowned Credit Union Prayer which Credit Unionists around the world know by heart.
The feature speaker, Mr. Geoffrey Lewis the Executive Manager – Sales and Marketing for the Southern Caribbean at CUNA Caribbean Insurance Society Limited, was introduced by Mr. Othniel Hyliger, Director of the SKCCU’s Board. Mr. Lewis presented a new product called the “Golden Harvest” which is soon to be launched at the St. Kitts Co-operative Credit Union. This product is exclusive only for Credit Union members ages 16 – 65, who want to save towards a particular goal such as travel, a new car, college, a new home, retirement, or even your wedding. This innovative savings plan created quite a stir amongst the membership as they indicated their enthusiasm in starting this new product.
Following the presentation, The SKCCU’s General Manager, Mrs. Sheryl Bass, conducted the special awards segment where both volunteers and staff members alike received distinguished awards for their tireless efforts in the development of the institution. These members included Ms. Verna Browne, who attained 20 years of service at the institution, Ms. Loraine “Henny” Hendrickson, who is up for retirement; Mrs. Nesta Seaton Clarke, Ms. Grace Warner and Mr. Earl Clarke, who are retiring from the Credit Committee and Mr. John White and Mrs. Evadney Morris Liburd who both resigned from the Board of Directors. After this item, Mr. Wilson the Registrar of Co-operatives ascertained the quorum and the meeting proceeded to the presentation of reports on the Credit Union’s performance for 2007. Based on the reports, the Credit Union has made subsequent improvement in several areas and is endeavouring to continue this trend.
The membership presentation followed the reports, the declaration of dividends, and election of officers and members were excited with the gimmick employed as several lucky members received gifts. The evening concluded with light refreshments and a chance to socialize with the general membership.
